SOLS 24/7 is committed to developing the lives of East Timorese
28 April 2006, Dili, East Timor - SOLS 24/7 is scaling up efforts to expand its programs in East Timor. This is despite the current unrest in the capital city. There is chaos on the streets created by gangs breaking in shops and burning vehicles to the ground. The clashes between the military and armed civilians have left at least 2 people dead and 27 injured. The riots began with the dismissal of 6,000 soldiers over striking against discriminatory work conditions.
However, this has not deterred SOLS 24/7 for laying in the ground work of their operations. Because of the recent clashes, many East Timorese lives may worsen, making assistance to rebuild the country and society more urgent.
Taking a positive approach to situations that happen in life, SOLS 24/7 is undaunted and ready to face challenges that abound in East Timor. Inconveniences and problems are merely one of the many bumps on the road that NGOs have to welcome and learn from. Many insights were gained in witnessing the unrest in Dili. A training center in Dili has been selected step up the expansion works in East Timor.
Doing the best that they can to help the people of East Timor, SOLS 24/7 hopes that peace and order will return to the country as soon as possible.
