FAQ

 What is refurbishing?

Refurbishing describes the work that is required to make a used, essentially intact Qualified PC suitable for a new owner. In other words, at SOLS Computers we collect donated PCs, refurbish and upgrade them and make a new owner happy by distributing it to disadvantaged communities.

What does it mean that you are a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher?

As an official Microsoft Registered Refurbisher we provide genuine Microsoft software (Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007) on refurbished computers to our customers. We follow the refurbishment procedures as set by Microsoft to ensure the quality of our refurbished PCs.

What is the benefit of genuine Microsoft software?

Only genuine Microsoft software provides the features and functionality you expect and need. Genuine software means you will be able to access the benefits of downloads, updates, and enhanced features such as free anti-virus software.

How can I donate computers?

Corporations, Companies, Government Agencies and Individuals who are interested to donate old computers can download the Donation Form and we will contact you as soon as possible.

What kind of computers and electronic devices do you accept?

We accept all types of computers that have been manufactured after the year 2000 and are still in a reasonable condition. We are a refurbishment center, not a junk yard.

We also accept other electronics and electrical devices (e.g. printers, modems, television, handphones) with the same requirements as for the computers.

Why should I donate computers?

The benefits for the donor are twofold: you make someone else happy by donating your old PC while you also get the benefits of reducing your electronic waste and environmental footprint. Most old PCs are still in a reasonable condition and can easily be given a second life after going through a refurbishment process.

How will my donated PCs be collected?

Shipping can either take place by post, delivery, or a pickup service can be requested. Collection can be organised for those who donate 5 or more computers. For less than 5 PCs, the donors bear the transportation costs themselves.

Why do you sell 5 to 10% of the PCs if claim to be a non-profit?

To cover the operation and distribution costs and to be self-sustainable we have to sell 5 to 10% of all the donated PCs. These 5 to 10% will still be sold at a very low price to individuals in rural areas. Our goal is not to make profit but we have to be sustainable to run our operations.

How can I apply for refurbished computers?

Non-profit charitable organizations (like Orphanages, Old folks Homes, poor NGOs, Community Projects) can apply for refurbished computers. Please fill in the Application Form and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Which organizations are eligible to receive donated PCs?

SOLS Computers provides computers to eligible organizations. We define under eligible organizations non-profit charitable organizations, like Orphanages, Old folks homes, NGOs, and Community Projects.

What will the recipient party receive?

The recipient party will receive a Complete Computer Solution, including Hardware, Software, Study Materials & Training. The hardware entails the computer (monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse). The software includes preinstalled Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007. The study material consists of the SOLS 24/7 Computer Training Program. At last, the training will be provided by a certified SOLS 24/7 Trainer to train the teachers / trainers of the recipient party.
