Grit and resilience make you do the harder thing now so you can have the better thing later.

If you start working hard now, working hard will be easier later. If you don’t work hard now, working will be harder later. The sooner you learn to work, the less work will frustrate you. The sooner you learn to work, the less you need to work later on.

Learning curves show this.

It takes a lot of work to learn a little bit at first. With time, it takes a little work to learn a lot. This is the learning curve. You need grit and resilience when you’re just starting the learning curve, and everything is frustrating. Everyone else probably seems to be better than you. But they worked to get where they are. You can do the same.

Don’t worry about looking bad.

It doesn’t matter if at first you’re bad at what you do. Others will see this, but don’t let it bother you. Grit and resilience will help get you through the staring. Notice how awkward you feel and then keep going anyway.

Don’t ignore the stress.

Notice it and move past it. Stress will just get stronger if you try to ignore it. Instead, try to recognize when stress arrives because of your work, and keep going. Learning to recognize and control stress in a healthy way promotes grit and resilience.

You don’t need to do this all at once.

There’s no need to go out tomorrow and change everything about your life. Instead, you can take slow easy steps towards your goals. Make sure to recognize when challenges arise so that you can slowly learn to overcome them.
