SOLS Borneo Green Academy
What is SOLS Borneo Green Academy?
The Borneo Green Academy is a free, intensive, SOLS 24/7 education programme that was one of the pioneer programmes providing the backbone for our Community Centre model. Currently, this centre is based in Penampang, Sabah. It is a boarding programme targeted at underprivileged youth, with an aim to develop them with important foundational skills to improve employability, as well as developing their characters to break the cycle of poverty.
What do we offer?

Why does SOLS Borneo Green Academy exist?
Amongst underprivileged communities today, it is the youth that have the highest possibilities to change their situation and break the cycle of poverty. Most underprivileged youth face a choice, and usually this involves choosing either to educate themselves or to work.
Part of the mindset of poverty is a tendency to pursue short term gratification over investing in long term rewards. This manifests in the propensity to dropout of school at an early age to earn a living.
The Borneo Green Academy exists because youth need to understand that education is an investment. We give them a second chance at improving and developing themselves, so they can imagine and access a better future.
Before joining SOLS Borneo YDC, I was very shy, unable to speak English and frightened to use computers. With the guidance and support from patient, loving teachers, I have developed myself and today I’m confident to communicate with anyone in English. With gratitude to SOLS 24/7 I am now a government-certified I.T. Technician, and an I.T. trainer in SOLS 24/7 Malaysia. In the future, I hope that I can set up my own training center for English and I.T. in my village back in Sabah. I love sharing my experience and motivating students on how they can reach their goals if they have a good attitude, work hard, and never give up.
