With methodology specifically crafted to improve language skills, and courses for professional and life skills development, the team has succeeded in creating employment opportunities for communities that are most in need of assistance.

The organisation is excited to work on new projects starting this year and is looking for Teachers (Basic English, Digital Skills, Soft Skills) to deliver courses covering topics from English Language, Digital Skills (such as Word, Excel, PPT), and Soft Skills. The delivery is both online and in-person (face-to-face), so our team needs to be based in the Klang Valley area and be able to work from our main office in Sungai Besi and at several teaching venues around KL, as per project needs. EdTech foundational knowledge is also necessary for online class facilitation.

Offered candidates will undergo an onboarding and teaching training programme. Upon successfully completing the training, the Teacher(Basic English, Digital Skills, Soft Skills) will be guided by the Project manager for the respective posting in the deployment of courses, inclusive of preparation, class delivery, and administration.

What do I need?

Essential Education

  • Candidates must have completed an Undergraduate / Graduate Degree programme of a recognised institution in a relevant programme.
  • Having TEFL/TESOL certification, or any other relevant English language certifications, or teaching / training experience is a plus.
  • Graduates of Education / Pedagogy / Social Sciences / Development Studies / Social Studies are welcome to apply

Preferred Experience and Motivation

  • Minimum 2-4 years of prior professional experience in a related position (teaching, training, instruction, community work, social services etc.);
  • Exposure to working with underserved communities;
  • Passion for community service, edutech, teaching;
  • Demonstrates an understanding and empathy towards the difficulties caused by poverty;
  • Prioritises the beneficiaries, and their needs and safeguards their best interest;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;

Language Skills

  • English proficiency (B2-C1 level) is a must;
  • Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is a must.

Technical and functional knowledge or skills

  • Must demonstrate interactional skills suitable for engaging with B40 youth;
  • Must have basic IT / digital knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Zoom, Google Meet;
  • Demonstrates integrity by modelling the SOLS values and ethical standards;
  • Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of SOLS;
  • Ability to work in a team and autonomously, in person and remotely;
  • Consistently approaches work with a positive, constructive attitude, an eye for detail and seeking to improve processes;
  • Demonstrates openness to feedback, improvement, change and has the ability to manage complexities.

What will I do?

Teaching and Session Facilitation
  • Prepare session plans independently or together with the team;
  • Deliver training as per the agreed hours and schedule for the assigned classes;
  • Proactively manage the classroom and ensure students are engaged and actively participate in lessons and classroom activities;
  • Teach online and offline the SOLS 24/7 courses based on the organisation methodology, curriculum and syllabus;
  • Assign tasks and homework to students as per the programme requirements and support students in assignment completion;
  • Initiate discussions and actions that enable meeting or improving the students’ outcomes;
  • Keep up-to-date with knowledge and approaches to community education and service.
Instructional design support
  • Conduct research to understand student needs;
  • Curate information, educational tools and materials;
  • Design documents and materials for the purpose of curriculum creation;
Administration
  • Carry out all aspects of class management, administration and coordination, including but not limited to attendance reports, assessments, progress reports, data collection (surveys, forms), safeguarding, focus group discussion, and programme evaluations;
  • Monitor and evaluate students consistently, including their attendance and progress in class and through the assignments given;
  • Report progress and provide updates to the management and relevant stakeholders and maintain communication with management by preparing and sending reports on a regular basis;
  • Other administrative tasks, as and when required.
